It is my pleasure to present for induction into the Softball Saskatchewan Hall of Fame the exceptional team from Weyburn, whose core group of nine players were born in 1988. This talented group initially competed as the Weyburn Bantam DQ Blizzards and, under a later sponsor, became known as the Weyburn Midget Young Fellows.

From their earliest days in minor softball, this team showed remarkable skill and dedication. They competed in the Regina Minor Softball League, where they captured league championships at Peewee A and Bantam A levels. As they advanced to Midget age, they competed in the Ladies B league and continued their winning ways, securing championships there as well.

Their provincial success began early, winning the Squirt B provincials, and escalated as they moved into Bantam A. In 2003, they earned second place at provincials—a remarkable achievement in their first year at this level. While second place often advances a team to Western Canadians, they did not move on that year because Saskatoon was hosting and already had a guaranteed spot.

Over the next four years—one in Bantam and three in Midget—this team consistently excelled, placing first or second at provincials and winning medals at Western Canadians four years in a row: silver in 2004, 2005, and 2007, and a gold medal in 2006.

What truly set this group apart was their versatility. Many were multi-sport athletes, excelling in hockey, volleyball, track, and basketball, yet they returned each summer to dominate on the softball diamond. They were known for strong pitching and defense, a precise short game, and the ability to hit for power when needed. Several players were selected to represent Saskatchewan at the 2003 Western Canada Summer Games and the Canada Games.

Beyond their minor years, most continued playing at higher levels, including college softball, Junior A, Senior A, and Senior B. Several contributed to teams that won national titles, building on the skills, teamwork, and winning mentality they developed together in Weyburn.

For their sustained excellence, their contributions to the sport, and the remarkable legacy they left in Saskatchewan softball, we proudly accept the Weyburn Bantam DQ Blizzards / Midget Young Fellows for induction into the Softball Saskatchewan Hall of Fame in the team category.

Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and supporters who made this journey possible. Your contributions to the game of softball will be remembered for generations to come!
